STOCK PACKET NOTATION DECRYPTION

A. The top left identifier is the coop stock number plus the focus genotype or some other feature of interest.

Click these enlarged identifiers to see related information for the example packet shown here.

B. Next is the pedigree information. This is set of numbers like: '96-750-11'. This particular example would mean the seed was harvested in 1996 from row 750, plant 11. This identifier can be over a line with a similar set of numbers appearing below the line. In such an instance, seed is the result of a cross. The female parent is listed above the line and the male parent below. If a letter follows the 'year' part of the pedigree, it indicates a winter nursery (e.g., P=Puerto Rico, H=Hawaii, GH=Greenhouse). If the male parent is S-#, it means that it was a sib cross. A circled X (sometimes symbolized as @) indicates a self pollination.

C. The genotype of the female parent is listed, followed by a slash, then the genotype of the male parent. In cases where both an upper and a lower case letter is present, that parent is a heterozygote. When only one or the other appears, the parent was homozygous for the allele listed. Sometimes introgression into a defined inbred background is also noted.

D. The number of seeds (kernels) included in the packet is given here.
